Destroying mods in prime – how can you tell?

  • by

More then one agent replied to a recent reddit article that one of the improvements needed in Prime is a notification when you destroyed a mod during an attack.

The good news – this is something already implemented.

The bad news – it isn’t necessarily obvious and might be drowned by other animations.

The image above shows the destruction of a common shield on an enemy portal. You can see a cloud of XM bursting from the centre of the portal with a bluish/purple background. This snapshot was taken after the use of an Ultra-Strike.

You will get the same animation if you use an XMP burster. But in this case you will also see damage values for all resonators – so it can be more difficult to spot. This bluish/purple cloud should also not be mistaken with the more greenish ring animation for an attack.

I can confirm that the animation happens for all shields (common, rare, very rare, Aegis), both for short press and long press attacks. The animation never appears when no mod is destroyed. It have seen it in >80% of mod destruction. This number is across at least 100 mod destructions where I checked mod survival after each attack manually.

I have noticed the occasional mod destruction without the animation. It is possible that I was either distracted / not enough contrast on my screen to notice – or that it genuinely didn’t happen in 100% of cases.
