Tracking Avenir – an Overview of Wave 2

Last update: after Jump 14 – 23/09 17:00 UTC

22/09 9:50 UTC Updated my distance formula to haversine formula. Distances should now be correct even for diagonal distances. I’m using a radius of 6371 km.

Wave 2 spawned 4 more shards. Dreamer in Mexico City, Spiritualist in Quito, Ecuador, Interpreter in Leeds, United Kingdom and Visionary in Melbourne, Australia.

Three out of the four shards seem to be moving towards a target. Three out of four shards have arrived at a destination portal. The fourth one is moving to an unexpected target. An overview of the first few jumps in given below.

Three out of the four shards seem to be moving towards a target and two have reached it by now. An overview of the jumps so far is given below.

Dreamer

Dreamer already managed to cover more then 50% of the distance in just 4 jumps. It took just 2 jumps to reach the coast at VeruCruz. From there is managed to get in 2 more jumps up the coast with an average jump lengths so far of > 300km.

Dreamer might be able to get to Oklahoma in less jumps as Explorer. Stay tuned – it is likely the second shard to arrive.

Jump 5 disappointed – just some 5 km. But in the right direction.

I should have been more careful with my words. Jump 5 seems just have been to set up Dreamer for glory. Jump 6 arrived at a portal already used by Explorer. From there Explorer took 5 jumps to reach the Beacon of Hope.

Dreamer made it in a single one. Just 7 jumps to get to the final destination. Great work !!

Apparently it was a blue link that split Houston, Tx and went all the way. Huge congratulations to RES (and ENL if they helped) to make that possible. This was not a simple link and was 4 links faster as Explorer from this portal.

2 new records – best efficiency of 77% so far and lowest number of jumps – just 7. The efficiency record won’t last long though – see an unexpected contender.

Interpreter

Interpreter so far moved ‘away’ from the target and is 15.5% further away then when it spawned. But this is deceiving. Europe is densely populated and it is difficult to link larger distances without major clearing. The shard therefore seems to take a detour to avoid going too much through dense areas.

Seems the plan is either to get it along the west coast of the UK – or even to get it via Ireland and then from there towards France. The next few jumps will be interesting.

Jump 5 moved it down the coast to Wales. A good jump of 136 km to get a total of 2 km closer to the target. But it is in a much better position and moves well down the UK coast line.

You can find a SitRep by agent MightyBaker for one site of the link and pokestophope on the receiving side

Jump 6 led to Ireland and I though – what a strange direction to avoid the UK coast line. HOW WRONG I was. Jump 7 has been the largest so far of all jumps. 3086 km – all the way to Newfoundland. This means Interpreter newer tried to get to Milan but also is on the way to the Beacon of Hope.

It has travelled further now then Milan – but is just about 46% on the way. But I assume our Canadian/US agents have all under control.

And another surprise in jump 8. It went from Newfoundland to Bermuda. I guess this avoids navigation along the US west coast / across land. I certainly didn’t see this one coming. The shard has now moved a total of >5700 km with an average link size of >700 km. Great work agents.

Jump 9 brought the Interpreter to a portal just South of Miami – thanks to a blue link. This is now well known territory as the Explorer shard touched two portals very close. The shard might move along the same links which still exist (or have been recreated) or might even take a shorter route.

Jump 10 was a short one – but it is now in the footsteps of the Explorer shard in Fishing Village Marlin. So this seems just a matter of time before it reaches the beacon of hope.

And indeed – it followed the path of Explorer for the next two jumps – only to take the short-cut used by Dreamer to arrive at the Beacon of Hope. This is the thrid shard which arrived there and the second one which jumps straight across Houston. Great work agents – this is Ingress at it’s best.

Interpreter travelled a total of 9731 km and visited 2 continents. It jumped 12 out of 13 possible jumps and had a longest link of 3086 km. But every link counts that brings a shard towards the goal.

Visionary

Visionary also seems to go ‘in the wrong direction’ as it moved out of Melbourne to the South. The good news – it seems clear of Melbourne and I can see a lot of less populated areas. So I will stay tuned where it moves from here.

And jump 5 finally got it moving 356 km in a single jump. The shard really needs it as it has the furthest distance to travel. It is currently still 0.004% further away then when it started. But in a much better position.

Jump 6 and 7 moved it another 160 km closer in two jumps. Going across Australia – over land – is not an easy undertaking. This one will be a lot more hard work – but it is moving in the right way.

If I thought I had an idea where this one was going then I was wrong. Jump 8 went ‘sideways’ towards New Zealand. The shard has now travelled 2758 km – but is now over 1500 km further away then when it spawned. On the bright side – a lot of ocean around it – and hopefully some islands in between to link to. I can certainly see several options – but I better don’t speculate.

No movement during jump 9. The shard seemed lonely in it’s level 4 portal. But I guess that is just a matter or time before it starts moving again.

Jump 10 – and I have no clue what is happening. It moved further towards New Zealand. I can’t believe there is a way to jump East to cross to South America – and I thought that the prior portal seemed to allow better chances to move across several islands. Is it high jacked? Is it just getting to the right portals to move? I guess only time will tell.

Jump 11 set up the shard on the East coast of New Zealand – before it indeed made the big jump across the ocean. It managed a fantastic 6816 km to reach the Easter Islands on jump 13 – before arriving in South America with another jump of 4056 km. This is >10000 km in just 2 jumps. I watched the link from the Easter Islands. A green link – protected both sides by a blue link. Great XFAC agents.

It still has 1401 km to go across land. But I’m sure the agents have this under control.

Spiritualist

The Spiritualist shard has moved on every single opportunity – isn’t that great news? Actually – I’m glad I started tracking in time as right now it seems to move in a triangle – overwriting jumps it did before on the map.

It reached it spawn and has done the first jump a second time. I’m not sure if these are links that have been in place since spawn and it is on a round tour or if any activity happens there at all.

This shard will be lost – unless it breaks out of the loop. A distance of 600 m travelled in 4 jumps is not reassuring this will happen any time soon.

And jump 5 just continued to move along the same 3 portals. Actually it seems to move back and forth and not around the triangle.

The tracking hadn’t updated yet when I looked – so I felt nothing to report when it just jumped to a portal it had been before in jump 6. Again – HOW WRONG have I been. Jump 7 not only moved it from Quito – it actually moved in a single jump from Quito to a portal just 200 m off the target.

This one should be home next jump.

And it is home. @ImYoshi documented the last link and it moving the last 200 m. Well done agents !! This is 3 shards now that have arrived. And the second one from wave 2.

Spiritualist dithered for a while – moving in a small triangle – before jumping in one large step nearly all the way. That makes a 99.97% efficiency in regard to total distance travelled vs distance needed. I guess this will stand unsurpassed until the end of the event – unless some group pulls of a direct link from spawn to target. I have been wrong before – so I better don’t speculate.
